McCain and Obama Roast

October 17, 2008

Last night, Senators John McCain and Barack Obama attended the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Service Dinner. As is tradition during election years at the charity dinner, each candidate gives a roast in honor of their opponent. Surprisingly, the speeches were actually funny, on both ends! GASP.

Unfortunately, I’m having a hard time finding a decent version of an embeddable video (the ones over at YouTube are attached with some pretty intense anti-Obama propoganda, so watch out for that), so I’ll just link you to this fantastic video of the speeches, hosted over at Hulu: click.

Love Hulu by the way. LOVE. Just throwing that out there.

Some highlights of the speeches:

  • McCain mentioning how Oprah once referred to Obama as “The One,” and then following up that being a friend and collegue of the Senator, he just prefers to refer to him as “That one.”
  • Obama noting that from the doorstep of the Waldorf-Astoria, you can see all the way to the Russian Tearoom. As the lovely Agent Lover would say: BLOL.

Overall, each speech was a nice, albeit temporary, contrast to the vitriol we’ve been seeing throughout this election, especially after the past few weeks. Obama seemed a little bit nervous, the Barack Noise was OFF THE METER, but it was cute. Although I must admit, McCain finally won something.

Let’s all hope it’s the last thing.

😀

i keep hearing people saying they thought mccain did better here.
barack’s jokes had me laughing so hard that my coworkers were confused. i was probably just distracted by charisma and nerves.
i thought they did equal hilariousness, and i just want to love it.
