MLK Day ’09.

January 19, 2009

IT’S MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY! It’s kind of one of my favorite holidays, because MLK is KIND OF one of my favorite people in history.

On the eve of the inauguration of America’s first African American President, I think it’s safe to say that our country has come a long, long way in fulfilling the dream that Dr. King spoke about on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963. It is an ongoing journey that hasn’t been completely realized, but comes a little bit closer with every step we take against racial injustice in our society.

We all know what Dr. King’s dream was 45 years ago. I want to know, in 2009, what YOUR dreams are for the future.

A few of my dreams for the future are:

  • The realization by the entire human race that not only do we need to be good to each other, but if we want to survive past our own lifetimes, we also have to be good to our Earth.
  • Not only the complete fulfillment of racial equality, but also religious equality, gender equality, and sexual equality.
  • Conflict in the middle east to END. PERMANENTLY.
  • Hoverboards.
