What ever happened to: Sasha Artemev

July 29, 2012

In this series (if I ever do more than one), we’ll talk about Hotties of the Past and what, if anything, they’re doing nowadays.

Alexander “Sasha” Artemev, Pommel Horse warlock, was an alternate on the USA Men’s Gymnastics team in Beijing, and after Morgan Hamm suffered an injury, Sasha replaced him. Following a spectacular Pommel Horse routine, Sasha went on to help secure Team USA a bronze medal.

Since 2008, things have been quiet for this last minute replacement hottie. An injury in 2009, after a car accident that damaged two of his vertebrae, prevented him from competing in that year’s Visa Championships and he kinda fell off the map after that.

In 2010 he performed with other Team USA Gymnasts, past and present, in the Victoria’s Secret runway show. What?! Yeah, no idea, but here it is:

via. Sasha, on the left.

Where is he now? Well, Sasha has been keeping a low profile and has taken up coaching with his father at 5820 Gymnastics in Denver, CO. He says he’s not ready to retire but doesn’t miss the constant training he endured while preparing for Beijing. For now he’s taking things one day at a time and says he’ll make a decision on whether to begin training for Rio 2016 after the London Games have ended.

We miss you, Sasha! Good luck with your decisions and hopeful we’ll see you on OlyVil in Rio!
